A diploma from a state approved school in the art of bathing, grooming, and styling dogs is the foundation to move forward in the industry to participate in competitions and certifications and to conduct seminars and judging assignments.

The diploma program for dogs includes the Man's Best Friend series with all the information you need to know about the dog as well as how to bathe, groom, and style dogs with professionalism. This strong foundation produces super stars like Jay Scruggs and Jonathan David.

If you are interested in adding cat grooming to your portfolio and want to receive a Nash Diploma in cat care and grooming, you can also test out to prove your knowledge and technical skills about the feline.

If you currently work with horses and want to receive a Nash Certificate, you can also test out of the online courses and receive your certificate.

To receive credit for your experience, you must be enrolled in a program at the Nash academy. The Nash Academy offers a CPE Diploma Program for Dogs and Cats and a Certificate Program for Horses.

Nash Academy uses our online courses with the test out option for you to complete the theory portion of the diploma program for dogs, cats, and horses. You read the virtual books as well as other required study material and then take the online tests to verify your knowledge. It is that simple. Online virtual books included in the courses in the diploma programs are yours after completion of each course to start or add to your reference library. Option A


Nash Academy accepts documentation from other schools such as diplomas and transcripts to give you credit so you do not have to take the onsite courses and repeat the same type testing. We also accept documentation from certificates from organizations which test and certify professionals on technical skills. We accept scoring and placements from grooming competition awards and conformation show achievements as documentation to verify your practical skills level. The higher the level, the higher the score, the higher the expertise granted.

CERTIFICATIONS
HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR CERTIFICATION SCORES

You can use your certification scores to receive credit toward the required trim styles in the diploma programs for dogs and cats. How?

A bather, groomer or stylist who has achieved certificates from organizations which test individuals on practical skills in the art of bathing, grooming and styling dogs and cats, can use the test scores to receive credit. The individual trim style scores can be applied toward the required trim styles in the Diploma Program. Listed below are some of the recognized certification organizations in the United States.

COMPETITIONS
HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR COMPETITION SCORES

You can use your competition scores to receive credit toward the required trim styles in the diploma program. Competitors who have achieved Level 1 - Novice Title Ranking and Score can qualify and receive credit for their achievements and not have to complete the required trim styles in the Diploma Program.

If you compete in an IJA competition, the scores and rankings can be transferred. If your competition wins are not with IJA, you can request documentation from the show promoter or the judging association.
JUDGING
HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR COMPETITION JUDGING ASSIGNMENTS

You can use your judging expertise to receive credit toward the required trim styles in the diploma program. If you are a grooming contest judge, you can receive credit for your ranking as a judge. If you have previous competition wins, you can transfer you achievements.
TEACHING PRACTICAL SKILLS
HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR TEACHING PRACTICAL SKILLS

You can receive credit for teaching dog and cat bathing, grooming and styling if you are currently teaching at a salon, school, certification organization or judging association. You can receive credit for your experience and a rating to qualify for the Nash System Practical Skills Instructor Program.
CONFORMATION WINS
HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR CONFORMATION WINS AND AWARDS

You can use your achievements from the conformation ring to receive credit toward the required trim styles in the diploma program. A professional handler can receive credit by submitting photos of the various trim styes and wins as well as other accomplishments and/or recognition's in the conformation world.

Option B

The practical skills test out is designed for the bathers, groomers or stylists who have no means of documenting their talent. This is for the professionals who are not certified, have never competed in a grooming competitions, are not professional handlers or grooming competition judges and have not graduated from a grooming school but are seeking credit for his/her on the job training.



Onsite Practical Skills Test Out
You can attend the Nash Academy or a Nash Test Out Site and complete the required trim styles in the diploma program. How?

If you are an experienced bather, groomer and stylist, with experience in the profession, and have acquired the skills taught in the Bathing Basics, Grooming Basics & Styling Basics Courses, you can receive credit and test out of a course or a series of courses to receive your diploma. If you have previous on the job training in practical skills, but have no means to document this training, you can utilize the practical skills test out system. The test out system requires you to successfully bathe, groom and style the trim styles required for each course in the diploma program.

Each course in the diploma program requires 1 day to test out (8 hours). You can attend Nash Academy or a Nash Approved Training Site to test out. The practical skills test out fee per day per course is $200.00. You can test out of one, two or three course.

To help you determine how much credit you can receive for your on the job training in technical skills, we have created a Test Out FACT Sheet for the onsite courses for you to review to help you decide.

First we start off with a list of technical skills that are taught in each course in the diploma program so you can decide if you have enough training to test out of a specific course.

After review, If you are not ready to test out because you think you may need more training, but feel that you do not need to take the entire course, you can attend training days so that we can help you prepare for your test out day. You can attend the number of training days you think you will need. Each training day is $200.00. After you complete your training days, you can test out and then continue with the remainder of your courses.

    Skin
    Are you able to properly care for the skin, including the nose, elbows and pads?

    Oral Care
    Brush the teeth and apply oral hygiene sprays and gels.

    Ear Care
    Remove the hair from the ear canal and clean the ears.

    Eye Care
    Cleanse the eyes with optical drops.
    Remove drainage and stains from the coat around the eye area.

    Foot Care
    Trim and file the nails. Treat the pads with skin creams.

    Anal Glands
    Check anal glands and release the glands if necessary.

    Skin Care
    Treat the nose, elbows and pads with skin creams.
    Recognize skin disorders and utilize the proper products.
    Recognize parasites and utilize the proper products.

    Coat Care
    Bathe the different coat types and utilize the various bathing techniques..
    Dry the different coat types and utilize the various drying techniques.
    Brush the different coat types and utilize various brushing techniques.
    Deshed the different coat types and utilize various brushing and deshedding techniques.
    Card the different coat types to remove the undercoat.

    Are you able to properly maintain, organize and sanitize salon equipment and tools during technical and salon procedures?

    Are you able to properly complete the trim styles required to be a professional groomer in a typical salon?

    The technical skill requirements to test out of the Grooming Basics Course are:

    Are you able to properly apply all technical skills to the various coat types utilizing the proper products, tools and equipment?

    Are you able to properly complete the trim styles encountered in a typical salon creating a balanced and symmetrical profile?

    Are you able to perform these technical skills and maintain your safety zone and the pet's safety zone when performing these skills?

    Are you able to use salon and grooming products, equipment and tools properly?

    Are you able to properly maintain, organize and sanitize salon equipment and tools during technical and salon procedures?

    The technical skill requirements to test out of the Styling Basic course are:
    Create mix breed trims with balance and symmetry.
    Create proper pure breed expressions and profiles with balance and symmetry.
    Recognize and correct basic conformation faults.
    As a professional stylist you should be able to enhance natural coat growth patterns as well as create beautiful profiles on the dogs with undetermined hair growth. Listed below are the trim styles required to test out of the Styling Basics Course.
